Heat reflecting glass and half mirror, 50 cm × 25 cm × 7 cm. Edition of 5.
In the ‘Move’ series, which began in the 2000’s, the artist presents vertical sculptures standing with a powerful and delicate presence. For the series, Toshio Iezumi worked especially on the waves, alternating convex and concave forms to give the sculptures an effect of movement. The artist also uses a semi-transparent mirror, placed inside the artwork to further accentuate the reflections and light diffusion.

Toshio Iezumi
Toshio Iezumi has dedicated over thirty years to working with glass. The artist creates unique sculptures using sheets of glass and a complex technique traditionally used for carving stone. His abstract artworks change appearance depending on where they are placed and the position of the viewer. Depending on whether they reflect light or let it filter through, his sculptures give off inexhaustible visual effects. Since 1985, Toshio Iezumi has exhibited in dozens of museums, galleries and art fairs worldwide. His works are included in several major public collections: the New York Museum of Art and Design, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. “When shape and texture are well balanced, an ordinary object becomes extraordinary – an artwork.”
